F W Bramwell may be better known for their own brand of Machine Knitting Yarns. Founded in 1965 by Neville Bramwell, the Company was named after his Father, Francis William, who was the Mayor of Blackburn, Lancashire at the time. In the beginning we bought stock lots of yarn from leading British Spinners, selling them on to small, usually family businesses manufacturing knitwear, up and down the length of the UK.
During our 41 years in business, Bramwells have had the ability to develop into new areas, by listening to the needs of our customers. Our first leap into another direction, came in 1972, when Mary Weaver contacted the Company and ordered 20 cones of yarn. The order lost Bramwells £3.65 an old penny for every day of the year. Mary was using the yarn on her domestic knitting machine. A wonderful friendship and business relationship developed, which led Bramwells to branding our own yarn on cone, for the machine knitting industry.
Bramwells have survived the rise and fall of the machine knitting Industry and we continue to export our yarns throughout Europe, USA and Canada.
Whilst still involved in yarns, our focus now, is over 90% in craft. Over the recent years, Bramwells, have with great pride, chosen quality products to distribute from leading Craft manufacturers. It is our aim to trade fairly with all our business partners in order to represent our Suppliers and support the Retailers in the UK to the best of our ability.
Neville finally retired in 2005 and the business is now managed by the four Directors, John, Tony, Peter and Alison. We are joined by a small number of office and warehouse staff, who are keen to offer a friendly, informative and efficient service to all our customers.
We have a team of very knowledgeable and professional Sales Agents who visit our Customers and they are supported by a group of highly talented and creative demonstrators. Both teams believe in the product we sell and help Bramwells to promote craft throughout the retail stores in the UK. We work closely with both of these teams and listen to feedback we receive, so that we can maximise the opportunity and allow ourselves the ability to constantly improve our service to all our customers.
